Goonies On Tour

Quaffing Quest

July 16th, 2008 @ 10:53 am by Kev · 1 Comment

Here is a question I have been pondering in the dull hours which I fully intend to find the answer for!

Just how many different beers will one who is embarking on a round the world voyage, drink in 365 days?

In order to answer this grand question, I plan to keep the most important of travel journals, a Beerlog. People need to know what beers to knock back when on their travels. The grand aim is for this in many years time to become the pivotal prized tome of Beeroscopy that no backpacker should be without.

We will see how it goes but I like the idea and I’m sure, we the GOT gang, will have plenty of fun and merriment compiling this grand encyclopedia of fermented bar bound beverages.

Let the Beer-Watch Begins…

Plan…Plan…Plannner

As you can probably see from the steadliy growing planner page. The Goonies have been extremely hard at work over the last few months creating a provisional outline of the vast ambitious trip we’re undertaking.

Now after what has been months (and months and months etc…) of planning and bookings made from behind the computer screen, it seems to me that this is all we will ever do….PLAN!

What with, accommodation, tours, visas, vaccinations, sights, travel arrangements… the list is truly endless! Sure, it is a slighty more fun chore than doing the ironing, but it’s a chore nonetheless (Cue abuse)! However despite planning madness, I’m certain that one of these days over the next 79 days, i’ll be hit square in the face with the realism that we’re “actually doing this!” and I “will” enjoying some of the benefits of opening that huge chasmn in my bank account.

But until that day of stark realisation (I may need a few stiff drinks on this day), i’m just happy for the general escape from reality the planning brings. Not to mention the comedy from translating some of the cryptic emails recieved from hostels the other side of the globe!

If anyone has any ideas on places to go and things to do then don’t hesitate to make a suggestion on the planner page! All ideas are good ideas!

Goonies are on tour!!

April 15th, 2008 @ 2:44 pm by John · 2 Comments

This is the first blog post of the new goonies website! The intention of the site is to help us spread news about our going ons whilst globetrotting to family, friends and other keen travellers. It will also be our a diary containing photos, videos and a blog allowing us too look back at the crazy times we will have had!

So a little background on how this has all come together… I think me and Kev had a small chat about us two travelling in a Uni bar called Woody’s during our last year of uni. Then, after that nothing much was said and it seemed to be lost in the back of our minds while we were thinking of life after Uni. It was brought up again here and there, but nothing really materialised. After we met up a few times and it wasn’t until we were at Reading Festival where we was started to talk about it again. Here we raised two more potential travellers joining the original two. These were Chris and my twin Mike.

It just seemed like it was just a load of talk about travelling, with doubtful minds as to whether this was going to happen. But this soon changed after a meeting was finally arranged to establish an action plan to get the cogs in motion for this once in a lifetime adventure. The Dog and Partridge was the chosen venue that will mark this significant step in the The Goonies World Tour 2007-2008 process.

We all arrived in a fairly packed pub armed with notepads and pens, a world map and a lonely planet guide to the USA. It just so happens that Kev had a copy and thought it was a useful resource despite being a WORLD tour. But credit goes to Kev as the guide was pretty damn useful! The guide gave us a mass of ideas to at least plan a rough route for the epic road trip across America inspired by the classic Harleys! From there we continued to deliberate over where else to go in the world and ideas were building.

Collectively, I can say the group was very excited and all we had was a very rough plan for America. We still have to plan for the rest of North America, South America, the Pacific Areas and Asia! Just thinking about the potential felt good!

The excitement just made us day dream and talk more about the things we could be doing when we are out there rather than planning things to make them happen! But that doesn’t matter. This gave us an insight of how amazing and magnificent this world tour is going to be. It gave us motivation to start initiating research in to locations, costs plus more to turn a dream into a reality. It looks like there’s commitment from all of us and I’m happy to announce that the Goonies World Tour has got the green light to go!
